SkirtsAfire in Edmonton is self-described as “diverse and daring”. Things are a little different this year, but it will still be 10 days of engaging and entertaining performances and experiences!
We have taken in their 2017 through 2020 MainStage Productions as well as Opening Night Parties, and of course, the fantastic SkirtsAfire Skirt Design Competition. This year they will be bringing the heart of SkirtsAfire into your home! Check out SkirtsAfire’s engaging online content as well as outdoor offerings, where you can expect a covid-safe trip around Old Strathcona experiencing art, design, and music.

This multidisciplinary arts organization festival focuses on empowering, developing, supporting, and showcasing women artists in all our diversity. They represent and therefore welcome women artists of all backgrounds including trans women, self-identifying women, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, all ethnicities and all abilities. Running in conjunction with International Women’s Day, their 10 days of programming truly celebrate us – in all our unique, amazing talents.
The 2021 festival runs March 4-14 online and outdoors live in Old Strathcona
Snapshots from 2020 – Pre-Covid, when life was simpler 🙂Â
Online content includes their MainStage play, Makings of a Voice by Dana Wylie (streaming March 8-14, ticketed – $27 (plus applicable fees) per household), an artful recording of our collaboration with Ballet Edmonton Body of Words (streaming March 7-14, by donation), and a short film called Covid Collections (playing online March 4-31, free)
Outdoor offerings will be covid-safe! The Key of Me Stage at Army & Navy will feature Edmonton’s local singer-songwriters at various times on March 4-7 and 11-14 and will be placed safely behind the glass, with music pumped to the street as you stroll on by.
