Free Fishing Weekend in Alberta!

Free Fishing Weekend

It only happens twice a year (once in February) and  July 8th & 9th- Free Family Fishing in Alberta! What does that actually mean?

  • You do NOT need a fishing license on these two days!
  • It is available for all residents of Alberta AND visitors to the province on water bodies with open fishing seasons.
  • Fishing regulations still apply- ie: areas typically closed to sport fishing, possession rules, etc. You can get all the Sportfishing regulations here.
  • This is not valid in National Parks.

Free Fishing Weekend

This is a great opportunity to try fishing with the kids before committing to paying for a license. There are lots of stocked lakes in the province, so you can increase your odds of some action! There are even a few stocked lakes and ponds around Edmonton, including Leduc, Stony Plain and Vegreville. Or, make a full weekend out of it and head to an Alberta Parks Campground to really relax!

Get out there and enjoy all of the fabulous nature this great province has to offer! Have you been fishing with your kids before? I’d love to hear about it, everydaygirlyeg@gmail.com.
